For over twenty years, I have heard the phrase ‘Jesus Is Coming Soon’, each time having a rather increasing form of urgency. Several scenarios of Pastors, tracts, books and frequent social media broadcasts and posts flash through my mind as I recall. Passers by, congregations, social media users and the entire world is left thinking each time, that this is the final notification; thinking that Jesus will likely come the next second, hour, day or year.
I remember been told a story of how a major population of the earth thought Jesus was coming that week and many sold out their belongings all for Jesus not to turn up. (In case you are wondering if I am still saved? Yes I am 🙂 I am heading somewhere, please read on)
Frankly speaking, as a Christian, constantly hearing the words ‘Jesus is coming soon’ became a cliche. Besides some would say it in tones that mainly brought about fear rather than hope, a desire to know this Jesus and want to be with Him. One thing I learnt over the years is that The phrase Jesus is coming soon is a fact. Logically speaking when an unknown date is set, each passing day draws one closer and closer to the apppointed day. Nevertheless, If our perception of this phrase is more personal than general we will grasp the often misinterpreted message behind the cliche.
Statistics show that there are 7.4 billion people in the world with a crude death rate of 7.89 deaths per 1000. This implies that the world records over 583, 800,000 (Five hundred and eighty three million, eight hundred thousand) deaths in a year. If you are reading this, this means that you and I weren’t classified among the number of recorded deaths yearly. Thank God! Our life is a gift from God, moreorless a loan. He takes it when He pleases, Some die at old age, a youthful age or at a very young age. Such is life, no one knows when they will part from the earth.
Rather than lettingthe statement “Jesus is Coming Soon” bring only memories of rapture, let it remind us that our life is a gift from God. We need to live each moment like it is our last; obeying God’s words and fulfiling our purpose.
I Love You & God Bless You
